Values and Goal Setting

What are values? Beliefs, feelings and experiences that you consider important Values help you determine what is right or wrong. Where do you learn your values? Values include: Adventure, security, trust, family, friends, appearance, comfort, education, love, money, humor, happiness, health, honesty, independence, intelligence, pleasure, popularity, power, recognition, religion, trust

What are goals What you are trying to achieve or aims you are trying to reach Goals are your road map to life Long term goals Goals that may take months or years to reach Short term goals Goals that take a short period of time to reach (days or weeks)

Working on your priorities What is considered most important based on your values Setting priorities may help you reach your goals if you have too many

How to set goals Set challenging goals that aren’t a “sure thing” Something you know will happen

Standards The way you measure what you have done Become important when you begin to reach your goals Example: Grades B may be good for some people or not good enough for others. If your goals is to do better in math, is a B good enough or an A?
