Five Technology based developments in sport Hockey Sticks- “Toronto-based Colt Hockey, is creating a composite stick covered in nano-tech cladding that’s purported to make the sticks virtually unbreakable yet without making them heavier or inflexible” (design-engineering). This will help save money on sticks even if they are a little bit more expensive. Skates -By using the Pro Skate-Balance method, they were able to improve the control and flow of the skate. They made it possible to make turns and accelerate easier. Increase blade contact, consistency, and improved on balance, stability and agility. With these changes there is lass fatigue and reduces the risk of injury of the player (pro skate balance). Helmets - There is a lot of issues with the wrong helmet and a member of ASME said “his research will improve safety.” Is team of co-workers have “developed laboratory testing-conditions that are representative of real-world head impacts”. Knowing the impact of a hit could help to remake or prevent further head injuries. This will also combine research done at Brown University and Dartmouth College, where they have recorded head-impact with instruments and their collection of data (live science).

Continued… Equipment- There is what I called the OD1N, which is warn by: “Niklas Bäckström, Claude Giroux, Patrick Kane, Henrik Lundqvist, Alexander Ovechkin, and Jonathan Toews.” This is “a tight one-piece suit speckled with white reference points. An optical scanner reads those and builds a 3-D model of the athlete.” This bodysuit designed by Bauer just for the athlete is “33 percent lighter than their conventional bodysuit.” Once they have prepared the bodysuit it is sent to a 3-Dprinter and then the suit is ready to use on the ice within a few days (popsci). Training/ Improvements for physical - “Since 2008, ACE has been working with USA Hockey to develop The Hockey IntelliGym ®, a cognitive training system for Ice Hockey players.” The initial stage of beta development with USAH's NTDP (National Teams Development Program) had coaches amazed at the difference the tool has made in their teams' performance.” They did this by: “Using head-mounted camera footage in ice hockey to simulate real time player’s experience, researchers mapped the game in players’ brains just like they did with basketball, and developed the hockey cognitive training system accordingly.” (intelligym) This system will increase a player’s game and help overall performance.USA Hockey In the future is can see many improvements in the quality of equipment and protection gear that is used. Hopefully everything will be in the favor of the athlete and the sport. I can see in the future the design of skates becoming of different material and maybe an even better blade that is designed. I also see the hockey padding, helmets and other protective gear improving and getting lighter with still same or better protection. With Bauer making new equipment all the time, there is a huge demand for these products prices are increasing with every new addition. I can see in the future that the amount of money to play hockey can potentially affect the sport itself. The money it costs to play could drive people away from the sport, unless they have a steady income. In this case hockey would be a sport for the wealthy and the poor communities wouldn’t even have a chance to play because of the costs for the equipment. (shows the Bauer product).

Timeline of the five new technology based developments in History 2007 The hockey clothing was made to be lighter and dryer The Mask/ helmet was invented by Fiberglass Canada Kneepads were made Gloves were invented Elbow pads were made 1880’s Leg pads now known as shin guards were made Hockey sticks were made 14 th Century Dutch invented Skates with a wooden platform and iron runners on the bottom.
