Membership Goals RIPE- John Kenny- “Expanding membership globally in both numbers and quality is a key priority because everything Rotary hopes to accomplish depends on its members. Each of us is responsible for bringing in qualified new members. Too few Rotarians fulfill this responsibility, and only Rotarians have the ability to increase our numbers by inviting others to join their club.” Net Increase of at LEAST 1 per club (50 District wide) Implement Recruiting tactics Implement Retention tactics

Current Membership Status

Membership Trends IDENTIFYING TRENDS –91% of clubs have concerns with membership development. Recruitment was identified as the primary membership development challenge facing clubs. The top three factors considered to contribute to strong club growth are: –Strong club commitment to membership growth –Strong club leadership –Enjoyable club meetings –Increased recruitment efforts The top three factors considered to contribute most to membership losses are: –Aging members –Clubs are not appealing to younger members –Weak club leadership

Membership Trends Three areas in which clubs are excelling: –Identifying and inviting prospective members to club meetings or events –Getting new members involved in club committees and projects –Creating appealing club projects that meet the needs of the community Three areas in which clubs could most improve: –Publicizing their events and projects in local media –Identifying and inviting prospective members to club meetings or events –Recruiting a variety of people so that the club’s membership reflects the diversity of the community

Membership Process

Ideas for Membership Utilize Rotary International –Use the available resources Membership Development- Resource Guide Club Assessment Tool New Member Orientation- How to for clubs –RI website- Membership Inquiry Form ctiveMemberForm/Pages/ridefault.aspxhttp:// ctiveMemberForm/Pages/ridefault.aspx

RI Inquiry Form

Ideas for Membership Schedule a special meeting (event) for membership-bringing prospective members –Plan a special meeting –set a Date –Rally around this event –club support –Have a special talk about Rotary, the community, what it has done and what is plans to do. –Have special speakers- Rotarians and non-Rotarians –Encourage and reward members for bringing someone to the event

Ideas for Membership Letters out to community / friends (Dundee Club) –Ask all club members to send out 40 letters throughout the year to friends/ community leaders/ co-workers –Invitation letters –Follow-up weekly with members –Chart or Graph it –Reward members for sending out letters regardless of outcome –Rule of halves- Each member sends 40 letters to prospective guests; of which half you reach on the follow up phone call (20); half say they will come (10); half really show up (5); half say they will join (2.5); and then only half actually write a check (1) –The whole concept here is every member gets a new member if everybody does the work

Retention Get the members involved Make sure they know they are special Have strong Leadership Have good programs Be honest about Costs

Extension Evaluate yours or neighboring community Need assessment Think about a different TYPE of club –Cocktail hour club –Airport club –Breakfast, lunch, dinner club
