Characteristic Properties of Metals Good electrical conductors and heat conductors. Malleable - can be beaten into thin sheets. Ductile - can be stretched.
Metals, Nonmetals, Metalloids Review
Topic: Chemistry Aim: How are elements classified in the Periodic Table? Do Now: An atom has atomic number of 15. How many protons does it have?
Metals Metalloids Nonmetals share some properties of metals and some of nonmetals. some are shiny some are dull some are malleable and some are not some.
 There are currently 118 discovered elements  They are arranged in increasing atomic number in the periodic table  The vertical columns of the table.

What are the properties of nonmetals? Lesson 16 What are the properties of nonmetals?

What properties do all nonmetals have?? - They are found in all states: solid, liquid, and gas

- All elements that are gases at room temp are nonmetals - Nonmetals come in all colors. Many gases are invisible - They are poor conductors of heat and electricity

- They have no metallic luster. - They are not malleable, they break when hammered. - Some have odors.

Non metals are used as insulators. Insulators are things that do not allow electricity and heat to pass through easily.

What is the insulator in this picture?
