Chinese WPAN Working Group was organized in 2005 with giant Chinese companies, research institutes, and universities Targets of Chinese WPAN Working Group Submitting the Chinese National WPAN Specification Building up the Testing, Evaluation and Certification procedures for the chips and equipment embedded the Chinese WPAN. Engaging the R&D of WPAN Chips and Networks in China Build up the formal Info Exchange Channels with International Std association. Including: –Low-Rate WPAN Project Group –High-Rate WPAN Studying Group

The Openness of Chinese WPAN Working Group Chinese WPAN Std WG would open and cooperate with Global STD groups, sharing info, procedure, tech development and std documents. Any Chinese (owned) companies or universities may apply to be the formal members of WG or SG Any Foreign Companies or universities may apply to be the non- voting members of WG or SG There are the strict conditions and evaluation procedures for member quality. Chinese WPAN Working Group and National Info Std committee reserves the right to approve the application and the membership.

The Discussion of IEEE WG and Chinese WPAN WG The Chair of IEEE802.15, Dr. Bob Heile visited Beijing on Apr Dr. Bob Heile had a half-day meeting with Chinese WPAN WG. The major discussion topics were around: –Introduce IEEE WPAN Organization, its operation procedure and IP/ Patent Policies. –Introduce the Chinese WPAN WG and the progress of Chinese WPAN std. The Low-Data Rate WPAN Standard would be the first ones of Chinese WPAN Working Group The Low-Data Rate WPAN Standard mainly around –Operation Frequency bands, Transmission Power and Co-exist regulation with other devices. –The Spec of Wireless Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) –Security Operation for Chinese WPAN Communication –Interfaces to the multiple topologies of WPAN –The spec of the testing and evaluation procedure and spec of Chinese WPAN IC or equipment operated on the desired Frequency bands

The Possible Cooperation The following Possible Cooperation are promoted as: –Attending the Std Meeting Encourage global companies to attend Chinese WPAN WG. Invite the Chinese WPAN group to attend the IEEE meeting. –Compatible on Standard and Testing Procedure Encourage the Chinese WPAN std to be compatible to IEEE b standard. Implement the more flexible copyright policy to support Chinese WPAN standard. –Start a new Study Group, such as IEEE c Studying the possibility to introduce a Chinese WPAN amendment to IEEE.
