The Problem This presentation describes a currently running POC at a major consumer appliance manufacturer The Event Server infrastructure handles two use cases initially As the company gains confidence in events processing technology, and the unique value- add that Avaya brings, the use cases will be expanded, and new use cases will be added

The Problem – Use Case #1 As a "household name brand" company, the client needs to be responsive to changing market conditions The company manages this by monitoring SAP data, particularly the "Supply-Demand Availability Matrix" Changes in the "Supply-Demand Availability Matrix" need timely attention to ensure that changing demand patterns and/or supply situations are handled in the most optimal way Current manual methods are error-prone, and slow-acting

4 © 2006 Avaya Inc. All rights reserved. The Problem – Use Case #2 As with any other stock, the company's stock prices fluctuate from time to time As a large public company, finance executives may get called on to explain why the change occurred Currently, such calls may lead to inconsistent messages being given, especially when the root cause may not be apparent to all The company desires to project a consistent, accurate message to the public

Approach – Use Case #1 Events are created by the SAP BW infrastructure to reflect changes in the Supply-Demand Availability Matrix Templatized rules in the Avaya system for events of interest to two parties –Executives, and Partner Account Managers Executives and Account Managers ("users") log in through a dashboard, are authenticated by the Avaya system, and can set template values (thresholds) to their preference. Users can also set up different contact rules using the Avaya system, by time of day, day of week etc. The Avaya systems monitors the events, and sends alerts based on the above preferences

The Approach – Use Case #2 Monitor the company stock price feed Set up a set of flexible rules to monitor for "sudden" price and volume movements Correlate the price movement with news mentions (future) Use the Avaya system to locate and request a conference among key players The participants agree on a message, and inform the rest, through the Avaya system
