Math PRIDE Support Workshop Introduction The Math PRIDE Support Workshop allows parents to provide their children with additional math enrichment Parents will learn how to use the Khan Academy multimedia math instructional resources. The resources provide their children with additional student enrichment and tutorial support in mathematics. Parents are able to mentor and support their children with the use of Khan Academy multimedia math instructional resources. Students utilize the Khan Academy website as a resource to support their attainment of math concepts. Parents will also explore and research other multimedia websites that promote active processing. Active processing promotes meaningful learning. Meaningful learning occurs when people engage in active cognitive processing (Laureate Education, 2009).

Khan Academy K-12 Mission Video Watch the Khan Academy K-12 Mission Video. Think of how Khan Academy personalizes math experiences for individual learners

Essential Learnings with Using Khan Academy As a collaborative group (according to your children’s grade – level), discuss how Khan Academy as a resource empowers students to take ownership of their own learning in order to be successful in mathematics. List four essential learnings from the Khan Academy Mission that will support your children with math instruction. Use a graphic organizer from one of the following websites to describe how the Khan Academy K-12 Mission supports math learning for individuals. Print copies of the graphic organizer for each group member to include as part of their presentation.
