This is Thailand, in South East Asia.

The Chao Phraya River is Thailand’s most important river. It’s 379km long and flows through the capital, Bangkok. Over 300 species of fish live in the river.

People have been living on the Chao Phraya for over 2,500 years. Near the coast where it splits into a delta, there are lots of canals flowing off it where people grow crops, hold markets and build their houses.

Recently, the Chao Phraya has changed and hundreds of factories have been built. They make all sorts of products like clothes, paper and plastic.

This is Ms Lee. She lives on the Sam Rong canal near Bangkok. Her family have lived here for generations, but they decided to sell their land to people building factories in the area.

Ms Lee lives with her mum and her son next door to this Chinese temple, and she helps look after it.

This is Suwimon – she’s 13 and she lives with her family on the canal. This is her house – it’s built on stilts in the water. In front of everyone’s houses are fishing tools and nets.

Suwimon’s dad catches fish in the canal every morning and the rest of the family dry the fish and sell it in the evening market.
