Criminal Law Deal with crimes and the maintaining of law and order – Prosecutors: Bring cases against suspected criminals

Civil Law Person v. Person Tort: an injury or wrong – Physical, Mental & Emotional injuries – Damage to property Victims intend to earn a reward for the wrong

Family Law Marriage, Pre-nuptial agreements, divorce etc. Courts deal closely with social services

Property Law Large field of law which covers the ownership and use of possessions Terminology dates back to medieval England

Estate Law Distributing property after death Wealthy individuals want specific solutions for their things – States have rules for distribution

Contract Law Appear in every area of the law Most firms hire a lawyers that read or write contracts – 30,000 mile warranty – 300,000 mile warranty

Employment Law/Labor Law Employment Law: Covers all aspects of working life except for labor unions – Includes: Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Salaries and Wages Labor Law: Relationship between labor unions & Employers
