Allusion Pallas -Roman Goddess of Wisdom, lends credibility to Raven in that perhaps, it, not the narrator is the one with wisdom (Raven sits on the bust of Pallas s. 7) 2. Night’s Plutonian Shore -Of or relating to Pluto, Roman God of underworld/ Hades, reference to “Night” is even more ominous –s. 8 3. Nepenthe - from Homer’s Oddessey, it is a “forgetting potion” to relieve sorrow, the Raven is the nepenthe perhaps to help him forget his grief of the lost Lenore s. 14

4. Aidenn - synonymous with the Garden of Eden, (poetic spelling) the narrator asks the Raven is Lenore there with the angels s. 16 5. Is there balm in Gilead?... - reference to the Bible, Jeremiah 8:22, the balm is said to have healing properties, the narrator asks the Raven for some, perhaps for his sorrow or as he is quite mad now, maybe he thinks he can use it for Lenore s. 15 6. The Raven - from book of Genisis, Noah sends a white Raven that comes back black as a punishment for not having returned sooner
