Neural mechanism for empathy YINGYING HAN SOCIAL BRAIN LAB- RODENT TEAM

Emotional contagion  Basic form of empathy  Emotional contagion is an automatic tendency to converge with another individual’s emotional state as a direct consequence of perception.  Rodents also show emotional contagion! Carrillo et al., 2015; Panksepp et al., 2011

Our subjects  Rats  Mice

Our paradigm Observer (OBS) Demonstrator (DEM) Carrillo et al., 2015

Techniques we use  Electro-physiology :single cell recording  Calcium imaging: See the shining neurons  Pharmaco-behavioral (e.g. oxytocin)  Behavior (e.g. prosocial behavior)  Molecular biology (ELISA essays, PCR etc.)

Caveat  Are you comfortable working with animals (rodents)?  Do you like flexible working hours (sometimes long hours)?  Do you like working as a team?  Are you expecting your OWN study? - Semi independent experiment but not likely from your idea

Contact information  Application instruction on our website: Google “NIN KNAW” => Gazzola/Keysers Group Group/tabid/413/Default.aspx  My address: (for further questions, NOT for application)
