Basic Information The Scottsboro Boys were a group of 9 black boys who were accused of allegedly raping two white girls. Their trial took place 12 days after their arrest. It took place in the courtroom of Judge A.E. Hawkins.
NAACP The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), was a group that decided not to help the Scottsboro Boys during their trial because one of their main rules was that rape was a politically explosive charge in the South.

The Trial After the trial, eight of the nine boys were sentenced to death. The ninth boy wasn’t sentenced to death because he was only 13 years old.
Their Defense They could not afford an attorney. Judge A.E. Hawkins gave them a forgetful 70 year old attorney.
Connections The Scottsboro Boys had a large impact on To Kill A Mockingbird because African- Americans were usually targeted during an investigation.
