Presentation transcript:

 A set of actions and processes, performed by individuals of character, knowledge, and integrity, who have the capacity to create a vision for change, inspire and motivate others to share that vision, develop ideas, and strategies that direct and enable others to work towards that change, and make critical decisions that ensure the achievement of the goal.  Leadership is about articulating visions, embodying values, and creating the environment which can translate this vision into reality.  Leadership is a function of knowing yourself.  Leadership is a combination of strategy and character.

 Agency (i.e. women undertaking autonomous initiatives) to >> Empowerment (i.e. taking actions that challenge disempowering power structures) to >> Leadership (i.e. capacity to mobilize others to join or initiate collective actions)”  The elements particular to a feminist leadership construction include a focus on both individual or microlevel and societal or macro-level social justice concerns, a desire to bring marginalized voices to the center of the conversation, and a willingness to take risks as one strives to enact a transformative agenda.  Feminist leadership is women and women’s organizations sharing power, authority and decisionmaking in our common pursuit of social, legal, political, economic and cultural equality.

 “Women who can act as a global voice, connecting women’s organizations, building solidarity and networking across countries (or regions like the Middle East)”  “Women with a feminist perspective and vision of social justice, individually and collectively transforming themselves to use their power, resources and skills in non-oppressive, inclusive structures and processes to mobilize others – especially other women - around a shared agenda of social, cultural, economic and political transformation for equality and the realization of human rights for all.”  Transformational leadership is leadership concerned with causing social change; feminist transformational leadership is concerned with achieving gender justice. For any kind of feminist transformational leadership, leaders need to undergo a process of personal transformation, consciousness-raising, and internalization of feminism.
