These floodplains are mostly in the Northwestern part of Harris County. The flooding can last up to a couple days and can also be very deep. Coastal Floodplain During a hurricane or an unusually high tide, buildings close to the ground can flood. The Southeastern part of Harris County. Low-lying structures near the coast can be affected. Ground subsidence can result in the coastal areas flooding more severely and frequently. 5 th Scenario When rainfall exceeds the capacity of ditches and sewers, the water overflows into the streets and can flood homes and buildings. This kind of flooding is not restricted to any part of Harris County. It can happen anywhere. Residences not near a bayou or creak can be affected if there is too much rainfall. Q. Analyze Crime Data and Land Prices - Explain how crime data will affect the recruitment of future students. - Future students will not want to attend a school in an area high in crime. Students want to live in a safe environment. - Explain how land prices will affect the recruitment of future students. - College students all ready have many school expenses and some may not be able to afford to live in an area with high land prices. A student might not go to a school if they can’t afford to live close by. - Predict how the Board of Directors and investors will respond to both sets of data. - The Board of Directors and other investors are going to want to buy land in a safe neighborhood, with lower land prices. However, I think the Board would rather buy land that’s more expensive then buy land in a dangerous area.

Near Campus Housing There needs to be enough space for all the students to live. In the country, for example, there is lots of land for housing, but there probably aren’t very many apartment buildings in place. In the city, however, there are lots of apartments but not much room. Land Available The college might need a lot of land to build on, and in the middle of the city there isn’t enough room to build a huge campus. The college is going to want land to maybe expand in the future.

Analyze Conclusion - Of the data that you collected (and is listed on the right) which data set do you feel is most important to your decision-making process. Rank the six data sets in order from most influential to least influential. Floodplains- A university can’t flood a lot because then the school would have to be constanly closing for repairs. Watersheds Land prices- If land prices are expensive, Fault data and mechanical weathering- Hurricane storm surge and potential damage- A university must be able to withstand a hurricane. Crime data- Students shouldn’t have to live in a violent area.
