Graphic Technology 3 Basic House Design

Objectives Recognize the four basic house designs List the chief advantages of each design Map the traffic circulation for maximum efficiency Compare and relate the cost of heating and cooling for each design

One-Story Ranch Design Living space on one level Lends itself to indoor-outdoor living (patios, decks, porches) Absence of stairs Popular for older and handicap people Low-pitched roofs Wide over hangs Needs large lot since spread out.

One-Story Ranch Design

One-and-One-Half Story Design Steeper roof for expansion of attic Dormers for light and ventilation

Two-Story Designs More economical to build With or without basement Smaller lot Smaller roof Smaller foundation Maintenance is more costly and difficult because of height

Two-Story Designs

Split-Level Designs For sloping or hilly lots, not on a flat lot Sleeping, living & recreation on different levels

Traffic Circulation Primary consideration in designing a functional plan is traffic circulation
