GLAST LAT Project DOE/NASA Review, March 31, Mitigating late module arrival The project is focusing on integration and test of the first tower. The following are areas to work as we learn more about actual performance –I&T can use the additional time for more training and testing to reduce risk in integration and improve productivity. –Some part of System Test could be moved earlier and tested with a partial LAT configuration –System Test Period is 2 Shift/5 Days, could be up to 3 Shift/7 Days –Increase the production rate of modules by working second shifts, etc. –Investigate compressing the environmental test schedule from the present 15 weeks

GLAST LAT Project DOE/NASA Review, March 31, Summary The LAT is a challenging instrument Significant technical progress -- no major issues outstanding Producing flight hardware Overall project funding is adequate if stay on schedule Funding in the current fiscal year is an issue being worked Schedule is challenging –Focusing on installation of the first flight tower in the grid –Mitigating delays as they occur Delay in completing Grid design – Qualify 2 nd grid Delay in arrival of CAL ASICs -- Load parts before qualification Tracker delay due to test anomalies – Proceed with fabrication before testing is complete Project management needs to be proactive in identifying plans to mitigate potential future schedule delays A strong, talented staff that is committed to delivering this instrument and doing the science
