How do you make easy transitions from one classroom activity to another?

What is a transition?  Moving from one activity to another  Examples: math to reading, free time to lunch,

What kinds of activities do we transition to and from in our classroom?

Is it ever hard for you to stop doing one activity and start another?  You don’t want to stop something that is fun  You don’t want to start something you don’t like  You aren’t done yet and don’t want homework

What happens in your classroom when it takes too long to transition?  Don’t get our work done  Don’t get free time/recess  Have homework

What happens when we make easy transitions from one activity to another?

What does it mean to transition from one classroom activity to another easily?  We make an easy transition from one classroom activity to another promptly by listening to the direction to transition or paying attention to what time it is, put things you had out for activity in order to stay organized, follow the teacher’s direction or classroom routine for the next activity.

Why is making transitions easily and promptly important?  You can get more work done  Sometimes you will have time to do fun things

What are the steps to transitioning easily and promptly?  1. listen to direction when they are being given or pay attention to what time it is.  2. Pack up any materials you are finished with.  3. Get out any materials you need for the next activity.  4. Promptly get started on the new activity.  5. If you don’t understand, politely ask for help.

Practice…..  You are enjoying writing time because you are writing in your new journal. Your teacher tells the class that it is now time for math.

Practice  You are reading a new comic book you got over the weekend when your teacher says its time for science.

Practice  Your classroom schedule says that at 1:15 the class starts social studies. The clock says 1:15 now.

Remember..  Make transition easily and slowly from one classroom activity to another!
