Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration
The student is expected to: 4B investigate and explain cellular processes, including homeostasis, energy conversions, transport of molecules, and synthesis.
By Mrs. Kristin Shaw. At the end of this lesson you should be able to: ▪ Define Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration ▪ Explain where each process happens.
Cellular Respiration Its how our cells release energy from food!
Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration. What is photosynthesis? It is the most important chemical reaction on our planet.
PHOTOSYNTHESIS USES LIGHT ENERGY TO MAKE FOOD. PHOTOSYNTHESIS Process that converts light energy to chemical energy Occurs in chloroplasts of green plants.
The overall process of photosynthesis produces sugars that store chemical energy. 6CO2 + 6H2O  C6H12O6 + 6O2.

Photosynthesis Energy in the form of light waves is used to Create chemical energy molecules (glucose) sugar in green plants. Photosynthesis song

Reactants are the items that go together to make a new product. Products are what are made during chemical and other reactions. What are the reactants and products of Photosynthesis?

Reactants go in. Products come out. CO2 = reactant reactant=H2O O2= end product CO2 = reactant reactant=H2O reactant=H2O end product = glucose Products come out.

This represents 1 chloroplast

When do “Light Dependent Reactions” occur? When to “Light Independent Reactions” occur.?

When do “Light Dependent Reactions” occur? Light dependent reactions need light to provide energy so they happen during the day. These Reactions form ATP.

When to “Light Independent Reactions” occur.? Light independent reactions don’t need light. They happen during the day and Night. These reactions form sugar.

What is the name of the light ind. cycle? O2= end product CO2 = reactant reactant=H2O end product = glucose
