S.C.A.M.P.E.R. Jo Freitag 2009

Let’s use the S.C.A.M.P.E.R. thinking technique to consider ways we can modify teaching methods in order to present material to 2E students Which of these methods cater simultaneously for both their giftedness and their learning disability? Can you use this thinking technique to devise other teaching methods for 2E students?

S. Substitute Teach at level of the giftedness but vary the requirement for the product Eg instead of a written essay a tape recording, model, etc

C. Combine Teach the same material either in a flexible manner or by teaching the same topic at two levels

A. Adapt Adapt the material to be taught to accommodate the weakness at the same time as nurturing the strength

M. Modify/magnify Give increased teaching and support to the LD aspect Nurture the giftedness by using higher level Materials or enlist help of a Mentor

P. Put to other purposes Utilize the methods or content from a remedial program to teach the subject

E. Eliminate Eliminate some of the requirements of the teaching unit

R. Rearrange/Reverse Allow the strengths that are a part of the learning difference to have a leading role Eg visual spatial learning style
