AIM Read a distance versus time graph Calculate velocity

Displacement Displacement is the change in position of an object

Displacement What is the total displacement in the 100 m dash? What is the total displacement if you run from one end of a football field to another? What is the total displacement if you run completely around a track stopping at the same place you started?

Speed Speed is the amount of displacement per unit of time. Equation for speed

Speed What is my speed if I travel 10 m in 10 s? What is my speed if I travel 100 m in 5 s? What is my speed if I travel 42 m in 3 s?

Velocity Velocity is speed in a particular direction. Equation for velocity  same as speed but you must include a direction. In a certain direction

Velocity What is my velocity if I travel 10 m north in 10 s? What is my velocity if I travel 100 m left in 5 s? What is my velocity if I travel 42 m backwards in 3 s?

Velocity Direction TimeDistance Speed

STOP AND JOT!!!! How are velocity and speed different???

PART TWO: READING A DISTANCE VS TIME GRAPH How to solve: Read question Find distance Find time Plug into equation Write answer and include direction of movement

Solving for Velocity using a graph What is Leo’s velocity between t = 0 and t = 2? What is Leo’s velocity between t = 2 and t = 5? What is Leo’s velocity between t = 5 and t = 8? Is Leo’s velocity increasing or decreasing?
