Welcome to the 8 th Grade! Kim Marfy 8 th Grade American History Room 111

The Curriculum World History/US History Will build on 6 th and 7 th grade standards in some respects…. but we will also be linking to the 5 th grade standards very strongly

Parent Communication Website ---generally updated weekly contains all plans, notes, worksheets available for download PIV ---generally 24 hour turn around, X=exempt Z=zero 0=missed all points Phone --- (330) Red Team Newsletter stapled to report cards.

Extra Practice I generally use Extra Practice to reinforce lessons taught in class. Occasionally, I use Extra Practice to enrich or extend meaning of a concept taught in class. I never give Extra Practice for the sake of just giving homework.

Extra Practice Students can expect Extra Practice 2-3 days a week Extra Practice points are weighted as 0 All students should complete all Extra Practice

Assessments/Quizzes/Tests Should Know quizzes weekly (questions posted online) Quizzes after Sec 1 & 2 of Chapter Tests at the end of each chapter Common Assessments at the end of each grading period

Interventions AE is time provided daily for students. Making good use of this time is important to student achievement. Study Tables available almost every day in the back of my room during AE. Any teacher will allow students to come for help. All students have to do is ask. Kids who come to Study Tables get treat every time they come – candy, pretzel, pencil…. Sometimes attendance at Study Tables is not optional Test Retakes for “C”, “D”, “F” scores, I take the better score--- students must observe the time window. (different form)

Interventions PIV comments Organizational expectations and assistance (5 section notebook, tabs, highlighters, folder, covered book) Packets for common assessments, then a common assessment retake is mandatory

Incentives Candy for coming to Study Tables Classes earning at least 75% of A’s earn donuts Stickers for perfect papers Positive communications (parent, administrator, guidance counselor) Good Grades!

Assume Goodwill I really love my job. I totally enjoy working with each and every student. My students are very important to me.

Lates Red Team Late Policy First Late: warning Second Late: team meeting Third Late: call home Fourth Late and each thereafter: office visit Clean slate each nine weeks
