District Continuous Improvement Team September 17, 2013

Agenda  Connections, Agenda, Norms  Purpose of CSI  Planning for  Professional Staff Development

Why have meeting norms? Benefits? Challenges?

Developing Norms for DCIT At your table group Come up with 4-5 norms for our collective expectations

What do you hope to learn from DCIT? How can you best communicate with constituents about DCIT?  Take a minute to discuss with an elbow partner  Your hope from being a part of this group  Communicate about DCIT

Purpose of DCIT  Identify, study, address and make recommendations to the District on  Instructional practices  Curriculum  Assessment practices  Professional Staff Development  To carry out the District Improvement Plan  To help buildings monitor their School Improvement Plans  To help set instructional priorities based on data  Share what is working  Share data and needed changes

Planning for DCIT  Focus on instructional practices  Learn about Instructional Rounds  Participate in Instructional Rounds  Monitor school improvement plans at the building and district level  Learn about Focus School learning priorities  Data review

Planning, continued  District Process Rubrics/School Process Rubrics  Learn about state and federal programs within the district  Provide feedback to School Improvement Teams on progress of plan

Instructional Rounds  Practice modeled after medical rounds.  Designed to improve educational practices within a system.  We will use the rounds process during DCIT.  Focused around a problem of practice.

Instructional Rounds Schedule for  Training on Instructional Rounds (3:30-5:30)  Holland Heights  East  Holland High School  NT and Jefferson  *Not all teachers who are part of DCIT will be released for Rounds  *Decisions will be made as to who will attend and will share attendance at Rounds across DCIT

DCIT PD Funds  Change in the contract language  The Board will set aside a sum of $10,000 each year for professional development for teachers whose specialty areas or assignments or specialty areas are not likely to be provided professional development from any other source such as grants or mandates related to school improvement goals.  Change in funding  Will result in need to change our practices  How so?  Need to make things equitable/create protocols to determine what is funded

DCIT for October 2013  On Oct. 8, attend afterschool meeting to learn about Instructional Rounds  Read your district SIP and the District School Improvement Plan before November 5  Highlight areas where you have a question or concern  Highlight areas that data will need to be collected

Inspiration….. 

Never give up on our students… 
