Man’s invasion of Nature A photographic body of work by Michael Burke

Artistic Statement We go outside everyday and we see injustice. Man’s injustice to other man is on the surface, but deep beneath lies a different one. This is against nature. Nature is the victim of man’s harshest crimes, where man erases it at a speed that is incomprehensible. Throughout the world, forests are becoming tree stumps and new housing developments. Animals are removed from their habitats so that humans can enjoy the space for themselves. There seems to be no room for nature. We have only one earth, and it’s not expanding. Man will soon be building houses on top of other houses until they realize that all the gaps have been filled. Perhaps nature will soon only exist under the depths of the sea, where men cannot venture. Nature wants privacy from man’s ominous wishes.

Biography I was born in San Diego, California in 1990 at a Hospital. It was once thought that I was not actually born by my mother, but instead bought at K-Mart as a blue-light special. Although many of my so called family are very interested in art, I am completely different. I don’t like to look at Monet’s work and enjoy its beauty. I would much rather watch a football game on television with some friends. However, my life has taken a turns here and there, and I ended up at Canyon Crest Academy taking Digital Photography. I was lost, with no clue how to compose an artistic photograph. To me, a camera was once a fancy device used to take pictures of people’s faces when they went on vacation. After two rigorous classes in digital photography, I began to find my way. I became a photographer, not taking simple snapshots, but rather producing aesthetically pleasing photographs. I use my love for sports and action, and translate it into my photography. A boring picture is meaningless to even a random person, let alone me. It is my renewed passion to take photographs that are exciting to look at, and not just bland, uninteresting images of anonymous artifacts in a museum that you would normally walk right by.
