Welcome To ICT at Wirral School Name. Adapted from ICTforALL

Our Aim We want you to become independent learners using ICT to support your work in school as well as becoming ‘capable’ ICT users to help you in life beyond school.  Knowledge  Skills  Understanding These combine to give you ‘ICT capability’.

Individual Responsibility We want you and our other students to have a great learning experience. To do that we need some simple rules. Obeying the rules means we are all winners. In pairs. Can you think of FIVE sensible rules that you would make if you were the teacher in charge? How would each rule help make things better for our pupils?

Our requirements of you Always sit at your allocated computer. You are responsible for your equipment. If it is broken report it to your teacher at the start of the lesson. You are PERSONALLY responsible for the use of your username and the contents of your folder. Remember the rules to look after the equipment. No food or drinks. Beware of cables. No running or pushing. Pupils are NOT to plug in any leads, plugs etc. All ways log off and shut down properly when asked.

Internet The Internet should only be accessed during your ICT lesson if it is a requirement of your work. Never log onto a chat room during a lesson. Always use the Internet in a sensible way, do not access anything that may offend other people in any way. Never reveal personal details when online, at school or home. The internet This is a great resource to help you learn. We want you to use it to help you in your studies. Report any problems or ‘suspect’ sites to your teacher.

Security and Sanctions We monitor every PC and user in the School. We can record and see all the websites you visit. We can produce a printout of all the places you have been on the Internet. We can remove your internet access and we will inform your parents.

Protect your Password Only log on using your own password. If someone else uses your Password and misbehaves YOU WILL ALSO GET THE SAME SANCTIONS. Remember never tell anybody your password

Remember We want YOU to do well. We want you to have enjoyable lessons so we have to protect our equipment. We want to keep our internet access and protect our pupils so we all have to use it sensibly.

Username and Password You log on as ????????????????? Write this in your diary Your initial password is ???????? Change this to a word that you will remember and write a clue in your diary to help you remember it. EDIT THIS SLIDE TO SUIT YOUR SETUP

Using our school network We have work in a ‘shared area’ that we can all use to start many pieces of work. (This is read-only). Today we are going to use a ‘word’ file called previous-experience Click on my computer > shared drive > year 7 > first unit > previous-experience EDIT THIS SLIDE TO SUIT YOUR SETUP, screen shots may be useful.

Using our school network We save work in our own folders (We can change the files we have here). Save the file previous-experience Click on file > save as >DOWN ARROW and select your folder then click on save. EDIT THIS SLIDE TO SUIT YOUR SETUP, screen shots may be useful.

Describe the useful ways you have used ICT at home or school. Save regularly. File >> Save

Review of key points. We need to look after our equipment. YOU are responsible for your own work area and your internet access. We are aiming to make YOU a good, confident, capable user of ICT. We can use ICT in many ways, you have described some of them.

Homework Copy in to your diary Produce an A4 poster that could be used to show at least one of our rules. You may use a computer but it is not compulsory. You will be marked according to the suitability of the rule and your design/layout.
