Components of Any Healthful Diet  Everyone eats food based on their health, age, religious beliefs, cultural backgrounds and activity levels.  Regardless of differences, all humans require certain basic nutrients to survive and be healthy.

Healthful diet for humans contains adequate amounts of 6 nutrients  1. Water – 2/3 of body mass  2. Proteins – Provides for growth, repair and replacement of body tissues.  3. Carbohydrates – energy for the body

 4. Fats – energy and makes food taste better  5. Vitamins – Growth and disease resistance  6. Minerals – Growth and disease resistance

 People need different amounts of nutrients for different reasons Age, gender, weight, pregnancy, athlete, etc  Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA) Nutrient requirements for humans
