Monarch Butterfly By: Kayla Reed

Characteristics The Monarch Butterfly is an insect. And it is cold blooded. They also have orange and black wings. And their wings are bright. The egg is small.

Habitat They live in North America. They migrate to Mexico for the winter. Also they live in fields and meadows that have milkweed.

Food They eat milkweed. Monarchs get nectar from flowers. They can drink the juices from oranges, bananas and watermelons. They can eat red clover, alfalfa, and the wild carrot plant.

Fun Facts Monarch wings flap slower then other butterflies. The males have a dot on it’s back and females don’t. The larva sheds it’s skin 5 times. A monarch was spotted 11,00 feet high It is one of the few insects that can fly across the Atlantic Ocean.
