BACK TO BASICS What are the core CFA Programs, Resources, Publications and Support available in regards to CFA fire safety Presented by: Alex Caughey, Community Education Coordinator, Hume Region

BACK TO BASICS. I like to offer a gift to anyone willing to participate in one of my presentations. Here’s my gift to you; Put your pens down! You have this PowerPoint presentation on the memory stick included in your attendees pack. When you open it up follow the pathway VIEW > NOTES PAGE And you’ll have lots of the detail I’ll discuss but isn’t on the slide. Now you can concentrate on joining the discussion.

BACK TO BASICS. CFA’s Community Programs Useful information from Brigades Online pathways: Brigades Online > Community > Community Development

CFA’s Community Programs BACK TO BASICS. CFA offers programs that start with parents of very young children through to the elderly. Some programs target generational change. Some programs provide information that can be applied immediately

BACK TO BASICS CFA’s Community Programs There are also a number of CFA activities which we undertake. These include: Shows and Events Change your Clock, Change Your Battery, CFA Sunday

BACK TO BASICS CFA’s Community Programs Some programs and activities are delivered by trained staff but we are working to develop a pathway and suitable training to allow volunteer members to deliver some programs. It will be an “opt in” process.

BACK TO BASICS Resources

BACK TO BASICS There is a wide range of resources available to support brigade activities. Think about the activity and talk to your CEC about what resources can be organised. Plan ahead. There are too many stories of brigades that missed out on resources because they waited till the last minute to order them.

Resources BACK TO BASICS Resources can be posters or large scale maps of the brigade area. Or demonstration materials organised by the brigade such as petrol water pumps, rake hoe, sample protective clothing for civilians. Or a demonstration on putting the CFA App on their smart phones. Or a “gift” like the one I give at Residential Fire Safety presentations.

BACK TO BASICS Publications Get more information on CFA publications by following the pathway: CFA PUBLIC WEBSITE ( > ABOUT US > PUBLICATIONS

Publications BACK TO BASICS CFA has a wide range of publications and it’s really easy to swamp our audiences with a mass of paperwork which they will never read. Think about the event and your audience and pick a few appropriate publications to meet their needs Talk to your CEC about what you would like and provide enough lead time to allow the CEC to order them in.

Publications BACK TO BASICS Use the publications and supporting materials to maximise your opportunity to engage with your audience. You should aim to have a 5 minute conversation with attendees at a show or event. Here’s some strategies to help you to do this.

BACK TO BASICS Support

Support BACK TO BASICS Every Region has a CEC. They should be your first contact point if you want: – Advice on organising an event. – Resources to stage your event. – Publications and support materials. – Training for FSK and FSY qualifications.

BACK TO BASICS QUESTIONS?
