Food Migration

Where does our food come from ? How does it come to us? Reasons for import Industrial food vs. Substainable food Why do we eat Pizza?

Where does it come from? Regional e.g. bread, carrots, apples,… All over the world because the world import and export e.g. tomatoes from Israel, mango from Sri Lanka There are some examples of the system import/export e.g. milk in a Germany supermarket: Produced in Germany bottled in Italy sold in Germany

How does it come to us? Train Ship Truck Plane

Reasons for import Cheaper to produce in another country: specific climate the salary of workers is much lower than in West-European countries All different kinds of food every day of the year e.g. Strawberries, bananas,…

Industrial food vs. Sustainable food Produces more food per hectare More jobs for the local business Supports local economy Environmental friendly BUT more expensive in the supermarkets Cheap food Huge quantities Efficient for the economy BUT more machines, less workers

Why do we eat Pizza? Migration People from other countries came to work and many stayed and brought their culture with them Result: Italian, Chinese, Greek, Japanese, Mexican, Indian… food everywhere (e.g. restaurants, supermarkets…)
