LDPB Adult Safeguarding Marianne Turton

Highlights  Dorset Safeguarding Adults Board (DSAB)  Single Point of Contact for alerts  Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)  Training for referrers and people who are vulnerable to abuse

Dorset Safeguarding Adults Board (DSAB)  Dorset used to meet with Poole and Bournemouth  Now we have our own Board to just look after the people in Dorset  The DSAB is made up of senior officers from County and District Councils, Health, Fire Service, Police and representatives from other organisations and groups.  There will be smaller groups working on specific issues and sending information back to the main Board  A wide range of people will be invited to join the smaller groups  The DSAB will have an Independent Chairperson

Single Point of Contact for alerts  We have been carrying out a study to see if a single point of contact for reporting abuse is helpful  This has been going on for 6 months now  We are looking at the work done to see if it has been successful  If the report on this work is positive we will continue and make the telephone number available to the general public

Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)  Following on from the murder of 2 young girls in Soham the Government asked for a report on how it could have been prevented  This resulted in a new piece of law called The Vulnerable Persons Act  One part of this Law says that anyone working, in certain jobs, with vulnerable children or adults will need to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) before they can start work  It will be a criminal offence to work if you are unregistered or to employ someone who is not registered  This does not apply to all jobs though and we are waiting for further clarification from the Government

Training for referrers and people who are vulnerable to abuse  We now have 2 staff in Training who only concentrate on Safeguarding work  We have extended our training to have 90 courses a year for staff and managers who work with vulnerable people  These courses cover our own services, private, independent and voluntary services and clubs  This year we will be looking more at other sections of the Councils who need training as well as people living with disabilities, carers and health colleagues
