Hallway Supervision Maple Grove Junior High
Effective Hallway Supervision is critical for the safety and security of our students. It is also essential for “setting the stage” for a productive learning environment in our classrooms
As a staff, we have been inconsistent in supervising our hallways and enforcing our collective expectations...leading to increasing frustration with each other and our students.
We made a commitment in May to do better...and we did a great job during the last few weeks of school, but we can do better
We are a team and we are all in this together... we ALL need to make a commitment, to each other and our students, to be effective!
Our duty... All staff need to be actively present in the hallway starting at 7:50 am Additionally, we have all been assigned one trimester in which we must supervise another area, outside the proximity of our classroom door. Locker banks, stair cases, etc...
Rationale Strictly following this schedule will result in increased supervision of the entire building. The administration is aware of who is supposed to be in each part of the building. Staff knows where/who to go to for help.
If... You can't make your scheduled duty, you NEED to find coverage Examples include... Meetings Study sessions Phone calls Etc... It doesn't matter how short the absence, we need to ensure coverage of the entire building all the time.
Schedules Barry will send everyone a copy of the schedule and floor plan outlining the areas. Department Chairs should post in their respective offices. The schedule will list the area to which you are assigned and the trimester. If problems in the schedule exist, please let Barry or Laurel know ASAP
Don't Forget... We all need to supervise the hallways EVERY day at 7:50 am. If you are scheduled for a locker bank during trimester 2, then you should be supervising the area outside of your classroom during tri's 1 and 3. Be consistent and visible Walk your area. It is up to us to set the stage for the rest of the year!
