RTI (Response to Intervention) gives teachers a chance to remediate small groups of students and also enrich students who already grasp concepts. Our school-wide program allows all students to receive intensive reading and math instruction two days a week.

Computation Place Value/Number Patterns Time and Money Data and Chance/ Graphing Measurement Geometry Fractions

Reading, Grammar, Spelling, and Writing On-level Picture & Chapter books in small groups Theme-based teaching (incorporating Science/Social Studies) Transitioning from ‘learning to read to reading to learn’ Comprehension Vocabulary Fluency Listening Skills

Students may visit the Media Center when class schedules allow time. Students are encouraged to choose at least one on-level book. The students have the option of choosing a second book of their pleasure- below-, on-, or above-level. Common Core standards require students to read an equal amount of fiction and nonfiction titles. AR is a single component in our assessment of comprehension. Although it is a valuable tool, our main focus on comprehension will occur within our guided reading groups.

Living Things Earth Space Matter Light Ecology Our classes will have opportunities to utilize Haw Creek’s Science Lab and Outdoor Classroom.
