By Leisha Bunrett What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this production?

Background information Previously I had studied media at GCSE where my project was to create a two minute music video so therefore I was comfortable and knew knowledge of each of the technologies. However before A Level I was only comfortable using the products but not knowing that much about them and the advantages they can have, so from researching each item I now feel confident knowing facts about the technologies I have used.

Sony Bloggies About the bloggy: Full HP video – 1920 x 1080 / 30 P resolution with sound megapixels still photos – exman sensor, captures clear high quality still photos. Easy operation with separate ‘movie’ and ‘photo’ button and intuitive touchsceen interface Slim, light east to carry – just 125g and 15.2 mm thin. Cons Not the greatest picture Doesn’t have auto focus Can be slow at times How the bloggy helped us: In our group we used the bloggy to film our back stage footage. We also used the bloggy to film our preliminary task which was set at the beginning of t he year. Not only this but I had taken a bloggy home with me to film some of film analysis's which I had spoke about.

Nikon D5100 About the Nikon D5100: Image quality: 16.2 MP Image sensor and 150, expandable to 25,600 Flexible shooting with the K Full HP 1080p (24/35/30 fps) Video recording Class leading 11 – point auto 7 unique special effects modes can be applied Cons Quite big and bulky to hold So many buttons can be quite tricky to use at first battery dies quickly How the Nikon D5100 helped us: As I was in charge of the filming we used the camera to film all of our 2 minute film opening as the camera had good quality.

Bloggie VS Nikon We used the Nikon camera instead of the bloggy as we found the Nikon had better quality, could catch action scenes better, it has auto focus which made filming a lot more easier and we could change the settings on the camera too which was helpful. However the bloggy was relevant as it was easy to use, light and convenient to carry and we could get the right angles as it was portable and we could also put it on the tripod.

Hama Star 61 Tripod About the Hama Star 61 Tripod: Cheap Light weight Steady camera shots Adjustable Holds camera in place Cons Sometimes the handle was stiff which created stiff movement at times The piece where you attach the camera comes off so can be lost easily The brackets on the legs are easily breakable How the hama star 61 tripod helped us: We used the hama star 61 for all of our filming as it allowed us to create scenes which flowed and did not jaggerty. The tripod also allowed us to film from different camera angles as we could move the handle up or down which moved the camera.

Manfrotto MM294A4 294 Aluminium Monopod About the Manfrotto MM294A4 294 Aluminium Monopod : Light weight alminum monopod Only has 1 leg Cons Have to hold the monopod at all times The camera feels heavy at the top of the pole How the Manfrotto MM294A4 294 Aluminium Monopod helped us: We decided to use the monopod as we felt the monopod would help us create more effective camera angles, we used the monopod to film angles such as action tracking shots and high angle shots as we could lean the monopod to the direction we wanted.

Hama RMZ-16 Zoom Directional Microphone About the Hama RMZ-16 Zoom Directional Microphone: Compatible with cam corers, SLR cameras ans system cameras with stereo microphone input 3.5mm Captures clearer, higher quality sound for video recording than in-built- microphone Normal sensitivity of -50 DB +/- 5 DB and zoom sensitivity of -46 DB +/- 5 DB Cons Got in the way of filming at times Doesn’t work well from far distances How the Hama RMZ-16 Zoom Directional Microphone helped us: We used the microphone to record all of the speech that we had in our production, and used the microphone to also pick up ‘park sounds’ such as the birds and the wind so our production sounded more realistic.

Olympus VN-733PC Digital Note Taker About the Olympus VN-733PC Digital Note Taker: High speed USB connection 4GB built in memory and micro SD slot Low cut filter for noise reduction while recording ME -52 plugs directly into your digital records 3.5mm microphone jack for uni-directional recording in high-noise environments Cons Runs out of battery quite quickly Easy to erase recording by accident How the Hama RMZ-16 Zoom Directional Microphone helped us: The note taker helped us as we was able to keep all of our stored sounds onto the device then easily access it on the computer.

Strobe Lights About the Olympus Strobe Light: Creates a dramatic feel when in darkness Can adjust the flickering depends on what setting you want, e.g. fast paced Gives undertone to scenes Cons Can give you a headache if you are around it for too long Can be very bright How the Hama RMZ-16 Zoom Directional Microphone helped us: We used the strobe light in our production in the scene where our zombie is introduced, we felt it was different and gave a dramatic effect.

Computer Using a computer for our production was a necessary thing as it meant we was able to store and access documents and files, use the different software's on the computer, use the internet for research and was convenient as it meant all that we needed was stored on one place. However obviously computers can carry some cons, such as the computers where slow at times, programmes often crashed which was frustrating, and obviously we could not carry a computer around which meant we was not able to access our files exactly when we wanted.

Adobe Premier Adobe Premier was a key software which we needed to edit all the filming we had done. Adobe premier allowed us to change to speed, contrast, colour, and sound of our project. We was able to cut out unneeded scenes and put different pieces of film together to make sense.

Prezi / Slideshare Prezi was a software which enabled me to create different ways of presenting my research and my work. With Prezi you are able to personalise a background and write about anything you want on different pages. The transactions between each slide is smooth and you are able to insert videos and pictures in the presentation to elaborate your work

Youtube Youtube was a software which enabled me to put videos onto my page and share the videos with the members in my group and YouTube allowed me to hyperlink the page I wanted with my video to my Word press blog. This made putting videos on my blog easy, however my school had blocked YouTube which meant I had to make sure I uploaded the videos to YouTube from home.

Wordpress Wordpress is the site which I kept all my blogs on. I really liked using Wordpress as it allowed me to personalise my blog, and make my blog look professional. Uploading images, videos, and pieces of writing to Word press was very easy and the site itself was very self explanatory.
