THORNAPPLE WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)

THORNAPPLE WATCH D.O.G.S.  National Program established in conjunction with the National Center for Fathering  

OUR PURPOSE  Increase the presence of male role models in the building  We can always use your help  Spend the day at school with your child/children  Encourage dads and male mentors to volunteer for other PTO opportunities

HOW IT WILL WORK  Nick Wright – Parent Coordinator –  Need to have background check prior to service day  Gmail account –  Volunteer Spot for sign-up –  Volunteer arrives between 8:00-8:30 AM to Thornapple Office  WiFi and a place to work will be available  Volunteer will receive a radio and daily schedule  Be visible and have fun

BACKGROUND CHECK  Copy or Driver’s License/Photo ID with Volunteer Consent Form  If you are flagged – We will follow up with Human Resources  We will call you if there is a reason to disqualify you  Reasons for being flagged – previous DUI/Criminal Record  You will not be driving students  You may be tutoring students – small group or one-on- one

VOLUNTEERSPOT   Add an address and confirm  Scroll through all the days – Only one volunteer each day  Save and Continue  You can sign-up for more than one day  Uncheck boxes so you do not receive extra stuff  Make sure background check is complete  Show up on your volunteer day  Wear casual/play clothes/dress for the weather

DAILY SCHEDULE  Arrive 8:00-8:30  Check in at the Office for name badge, radio and schedule  Make you home base in the Media Center  8:30 - 9:00 - Greeting students at parent drop-off  9:00 – 9:30 – Walk perimeter of building checking that all doors are locked  9:30 – 10:00 – Building Work/ Check-in with work  11:45 – 1:00 – Assist in cafeteria – Eat lunch with child/children  1:00-1:30 – Walk perimeter of building checking that all doors are locked  2:00 – 2:30 PM Recess – Upper or Lower El. or Both  2:30 – 3:00 - Walk perimeter of building checking that all doors are locked  3:00-3:30 – Building Work/ Check-in with work  3:30 – Help with dismissal at Parent Pick-up

QUESTIONS??  Information will continue to be published throughout the year.  Mr. Wright and Mr. Shubel will check account  Hot lunch can be ordered the morning of and charged to student account at a cost of approximately $3.40  Moms and female role models will be invited to participate  Background check can be completed at any time during the year  Eventually, it is my hope that the WATCHD.O.G.S. program will become another opportunity in the PTO Volunteer Booklet
