Hawaii There are 8 islands in the main Hawaiian chain. 6 are inhabited. We live on the island of Hawaii, also known as “The Big Island” We live in a town called Kailua-Kona.

Kailua-Kona Kona is on the West side of the Big Island. We are the dry side. It’s usually sunny here. Sometimes we get afternoon showers Our average day temp. is mid to high 80s. Night time is high 70s. 60 degrees is really cold for us!

We have 5 volcanoes! 2 are extinct (Kohala & Mauna Kea 2 are dormant or sleeping (Hualalai & Mauna Loa 1 is active (Kilauea)

Kohala & Mauna Kea Depending on the weather, we have snow (or ice) on Mauna Kea if it’s stormy & very windy. It takes 2 hours to drive to summit of Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea means “white mountain”

Hualalai & Mauna Loa Kona is located on the slopes of Hualalai. We hope that Hualalai doesn’t wake up. Mauna Loa means “long mountain.” It also gets snow too!

Kilauea
