Basic Accessibility Options
Right Click on the screen and the following menu will appear. Left Click on Properties
To Change the appearance of the ‘boxes’ Choose the appearances Tab
Font Size Use the pull down menu to choose either Normal, Large or Extra Large font
As you can see compared to the previous slide the font size of the entire desktop is altered. Desktop Properties
To enlarge the on screen icons Click on effects, this will open a second window Then choose use large icons And click ok
Changing the Background Go to the desktop Tab You can choose a picture or ‘none’ If you choose ‘none’ you can change the colour of the screen which can make it clearer to read Then click ok

Microsoft WORD When typing or reading documents it is sometimes easier to do so with a darker background and lighter font. To do this go to the Tools tab and scroll down to options.
Click to open the options menu. Then choose the General Tab Word offers the option for Blue background White Text. When printed this will not show. Then click ok MS Word options dialog box

Size of the page This can be altered by clicking on the ‘zoom’ drop down menu.

Icons The size of the icons can be altered using the customize menu under the Tools tab
Click on it to open the menu. Then choose the options tab Check the Large icons box. Then close Customise - options dialog box

The control panel also offers accessibility options. Under the start menu click on control panel

Choose the Display tab. Check the high contrast box Click ok High contrast mode chosen
The contrast will be changed on the desktop and all programs.
However, PowerPoint does not change in edit mode!
MORE!!! There is plenty more to explore! The control panel has many options! Don’t be afraid to play around!! You never know what you will find helps you!! You may find reading text on a normal screen fine during the day, but harder at night, try colour!! It can really help!!
