Slovene Istria – Republic of Slovenia Slovene and Italian population present. The language of schooling either Slovene OR Italian. Italian and Slovene L2 – included as a subject within the adapted curriculum. Students of migrant background in Slovene schools in Slovene Istria.

Slovene school in Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy Considerable presence of Slovene population. Slovene school - The language of schooling Slovene. - No autonomy in the curriculum. - Italian as a second L1. Italian school – no Slovene as a L subject.

Slovene school in Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy Historical and political changes – especially in the last decade. Rising number of the students whose L1 is not Slovene. Students of migrant background – similarities to their mother tongue (e.g. Serbian, Croatian, Ukrainian).
