“The Way I See It” Philippians 3:1-11 August 16, 2009

I. Beware of misguided motives A proper spiritual focus is a safeguard. – Rejoice in the Lord (1) – Watch out for evildoers (2) Promote legalism Sap the spirit of worship A proper spiritual focus has the appropriate confidence. – Put no confidence in the flesh (3) – Glory in Christ Jesus alone (3)

II. Beware of misleading accomplishments Paul had more reasons to put confidence in himself. – Met all the religious traditions – Excelled at all the religious activities Zealous Legalistically righteous Paul considered it all loss. – Compared everything to knowing the Lord – Considered everything else as rubbish

III. Beware of mismanaged goals To know Christ is to be found in Him. – A righteousness through faith in Christ. Comes only from God It is by faith – Not a righteousness from the Law. It is our own It is an attempt to earn God’s approval

III. Beware of mismanaged goals To know Christ and the power of His resurrection – Having the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings – Expecting to attain to the resurrection from the dead
