Supervised by: Dr Amal Abo El-Monsef

By the end of this lecture, the student will be able to: 1. List the composition of the eye ball 2. Mention the function of the cornea

- The eye ball is the organ of vision Coats of the eye ball: They are: 1- The fibrous coat: it is the outer layer. It is formed made of: Sclera:Sclera: forms the posterior part of the fibrous coat. It is opaque. It is directly continuous anteriorly with the cornea. The cornea:The cornea: it is transparent. It is in contact with the aqueous humor. It is devoid of blood vessel. -Function of the cornea: Refraction of light.

2- Vascular coat: it is consists of: Iris:Iris: it is the pigmented part of the eye ball. It has a central opening called the pupil. Ciliary bodyCiliary body choroidchoroid 3- Nervous coat: it is formed by the retina. It is sensitive. The optic nerve is attached to retina.

Aqueous humor: Aqueous humor: it is a clear fluid. It fills the space anterior to the lens. It supplies the avascular cornea & lens with nutrients. Lens: Lens: it is transparent. It lies between the iris anteriorly & the vitreous body posteriorly. Viteous body: Viteous body: fills the eye ball behind the lens. It is a transparent gel.

Cross section in the eye ball

1. List the coats of eye. 2. Enumerate the contents of the eye ball.
