Genetics Notes Foldable Reproduction and Genetics

Heredity The process in which characteristic s pass from parents to offspring.

Genetics The scientific study of heredity.

Traits An organism’s physical appearance Such as type of nose or long eyelashes

DNA Deoxyribonucleic Acid Chromosomes are made partly of long-chain molecules call DNA

Gene A segment of a DNA molecule that contains information that governs a specific trait.

Sexual Reproduction Involves two parents who combine genetic material Each parent provides part of the genes

Asexual Reproduction Offspring are produced by a single parent An example is a one-celled organism, such as bacterium, dividing into two.

Alleles One part of a gene pair Example: free or attached ear lobes /human-traits.jpg /human-traits.jpg

Dominant and Recessive Alleles Dominant: Always shows up in an organism Cleft chin Curly hair Dark hair Purple pea flowers Recessive : Hidden when dominant is present Straight hair Red hair Attached ear lobes White pea flowers
