What Horizons Is All About To the new Sawnee Elementary parents

S.T.A.R. Students Taking Academic Responsibility

Why Students Are Tested… Certain students get tested to see if they need a little more of a challenge than their regular class provides. These children will get tested on Math, Reading, and Creativity. If they meet the regulations, that child will be excepted into Horizons. If your child does not make it into Horizons, it doesn't mean they are unintelligent or not smart enough, they just didn’t need the challenge. This class provides chances to meet friends and experience times where they have to “think outside the box.”

The Teachers Mrs. Gravitt, Mrs. Cox, Ms. Grebe From Left top to right bottom Mrs. Gravitt, Mrs. Cox, and Mrs. Grebe

Some of the work they will do… In Horizons they play chess and hold tournaments. They also write books and have them published.

More activities… Students work on packets such as Hands on Equations. They also work on Latin stems.

Your child will work as a team with other children.

What Students Have To Say About Horizons 1 st grade Calvin Geurin, 2 nd grade Brit Baker, 3 rd grade Logan Dominique, 4 th grade Ryan Evans, 5 th grade Livija Broxson

Do you make friends in Horizons? Yes, we work as a team to help each other when we are doing a project. - Calvin Geurin

Is Horizons A Challenge For You? Yes it is challenging because you have to think really hard and a lot, but Horizons is fun. -Brit Baker

Do you use technology in Horizons? Yes we do use technology. We use it to get information that is unavailable using classroom resources. - Logan Dominique

What is the most exciting activity you have ever worked on? The most exciting thing I’ve ever worked on was when I made an invention. It was my favorite because it was my first invention. It was a seat & a trashcan called the srash. -Ryan Evans

What do you do in Horizons on a regular basis? We do so many different things. Sometimes we switch classrooms with Mrs. Grebe & Mrs. Cox. We do Caesar's English & Hands on Equations. - Livija Broxson

Thank You!
