Pre-Intervention Tool (P.I.T.): Purpose: Purpose: –To provide a systematic & comprehensive process for reflecting on variables that contribute to why a student engages in negative behaviors that disrupt and/or interfere with classroom instruction & learning. –To match evidence-based intervention strategies that provide guidance for educators to intervene and prevent student’s from engaging in negative behaviors. Process: Process: –House PLC teams discuss student behavior to determine if the PIT should be initiated. –Teachers complete the PIT & return to School Counselor –School Counselor collects & evaluates data from PIT in order to match interventions that are put into “House Action Plan.” –Teachers are provided with “House Action Plan” as a guide. Teachers determine what intervention strategies they will implement to address the student’s negative behavior based on their experience with the student & the undesired behaviors that the student is presenting in their classroom setting.

P.I.T Continued: PIT Design: PIT Design: –Academic behavior is accessed in 6 areas: 1) Study Skills 2) Organizational Skills 3) Homework Completion 4) Cooperative Learning 5) Independent Class Work 6) Academic Motivation –Scale is used to gather data that reflects how strong a need there is for intervention relating to each academic behavior described in items on the PIT. –Scale of 1 to 3 – (1 being minimal need for help and 3 being strong need for help) –In the final section of PIT teachers are asked to provide suggestions relating to strategies they believe could be helpful in improving this student’s academic performance based on what they have tried and have seen work in their experience with the student.

Lunch Intervention: Students are referred to Lunch Intervention when they present as being more socially focused than academically focused, which is negatively effecting their work completion & academic progress. Work must be received by main office by end of 3 rd period & must include material & instructions for Lunch Intervention teacher & student. School Counseling Groups Continued: School Counselor must receive written consent from the student’s parent for their participation.
