Business computing 18 november 2003 Preparation for the mid-term exam of next week

Prerequisites In a business school we have to learn to type with 10 (or 9) fingers –because we will have plenty of papers to prepare –and typed papers give a much better image of us than handwritten papers

Word : keyboard equivalents The keyboard equivalent to « copy » is Ctrl + C (you have to select a piece of text first) For paste : it is Ctrl + V Example : « Here is a text. » For cancel : Ctrl + Z Select All : Ctrl + A

Word : toolbars Names of 6 toolbars : –Menu bar –Standard bar –Formatting bar –Etc.

Word : How to transform the pointer into a question mark ? Ans : Shift + F1 What is it for ? Ans : to get a short explanation about an icon

Sample examination questions On word : what is the function of the shown icon ?

Sample examination questions On word : –What is the function of the icon shown ? –How to transform the pointer into a question mark ? –How to use it ? Which toolbar these icons belong to ? –And what are they for ?

The location of Karakorum

Sample examination questions We are shown an excel cell : –what’s its address, what’s its content, what’s its name ? When we want to know the content of a cell how to proceed ? –Ans : select it and click F2 Some questions on « copying » without and with the $ sign Who invented the spreadsheet ?

Excel cells A cell has three characteristics : –An address (eg « D5 ») –A content (eg « =A1*B3 ») –A name (eg « product ») When there is no specific name, a cell has a default name : its address Copying with the $ sign

Conditional formatting Within Excel let’s display a cell with a format (for instance a color) that depends upon the result of the formula inside : –Use conditional formatting (in the format item of the menu bar)

Dynamic links When we paste dynamically a table from Excel into Word, then Word displays numbers extracted from Excel (they are not typed within Word) The same is true with the online catalog of Camif : –the prices are not typed within the Web pages, they are extracted from a database at the time of our request.
