Article Responses In Class Assignment- September 10 th

Article Study #1- 5 Ways to Think like an Entrepreneur in Your Career 1. Read the article. 2. Reflection: Do you agree or disagree with each point? Provide an explanation for each of the five ways.

Article Study #2- Maple Syrup tested as ‘champion food’ 1. Read the article. 2. As an entrepreneur (consider traits and the previous article) how would you take advantage of the information presented in the article? Produce at least five ideas.

Case Study #1 In this course we will analyze real world situations on a regular basis. We will begin by analyzing a young man by the name of Chris Griffiths. Chris would like to begin his own business fixing guitars, but he faces many challenges that I would like you to identify, analyze and find solutions for. My expectations: These responses should be in full sentences, they should be clear and specific and you should be able to provide examples when asked.

Agenda- September 12, 2014 Your case study will be due on Monday at the beginning of class. I would like you to watch this episode of Dragon’s Den and identify instances where the Dragons use terms provided to you on your ‘Dragon’s Den Term Sheet.’ Try and select at least 3 and explain how the term is being used in the episode.

September 15- Brainstorming Session I would like you to collectively come up with at least ten ideas for the Christmas market project. Brainstorm #1- I would like you to discuss 2 things in your small groups: a)What do you know this far about Entrepreneurship (consider the Lego Story, Steve Jobs, taking advantage of maple syrup and your case study) b) Come up with at least 5 ideas for products/services you could offer at the Christmas Market. Brainstorm #2- I would like to re-group and brainstorm market options as a whole class.

Opinion Piece- Dragon’s Den Read the two articles about Dragon’s Den. One believes that the show is encouraging entrepreneurs and the other believes that it destroying true business opportunities. After reading the articles write an opinion piece. Do you agree, disagree. Connect it to what we know thus far about entrepreneurship (refer to the brainstorm session with your group). This should be a solid paragraph.

September 16 th -Marketing Marketing - the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to create changes that satisfy individual and organizational objectives. It is an approach to doing business that focuses on identifying the customers needs and preferences. Using this information, a company can shape the goods and services it provides, as well as the strategy it uses to bring these goods and services to the public, based on satisfying the customer.

Target Market A target market is a group of customers towards which a business has decided to aim its marketing efforts. It is a specific group of people that you have determined to be part of your customer base. For example: a company that makes snow tires would be more interested in the consumers located in the northern parts of the United States and in the mountainous regions.

Agenda- September 22, Finish up presentations from Friday 2. Go over Case Study #1- Opportunity to improve on your work 3. Watch Caine’s Arcade and respond to questions 4. Exploring new Business Ideas Lesson (if we have time)

September 22, 2014 A) In your opinion does Caine have the entrepreneurial spirit? B) Explain 3 business lessons you can learn from Caine, C) Explain the difference between a goal and a dream.
