Fuquay-Varina High School Goal #2: Reduce the combined achievement Gap from 19.2 points to 18 points

Description of School and Community Close-knit community Good community involvement Fastest growing school in the area About 2,000 students School of Distinction 80-90% performing at grade level Free and Reduced Lunch (2011) 24.6%

Student Success Center MISSON: Provide an after school program for students that are failing. Starts promptly at 2:30 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) An hour maximum. Teachers refer struggling students. Required for failing students!

Needs Volunteers to help with the program parents, college students... Post volunteer program on website. N.C State, Meredith, and other local colleges Head teacher to organize. Funds to compensate teachers. Media Center availability after school.

How it will help Fuquay Students… Computer access Successful work environment, free from distractions. Opportunity to make up missed work with teacher support One on one assistance if needed

# of People Two teachers are required per day. One head teacher to oversee the program. Keeps track of a monthly teacher scheduling Volunteers based on amount of students. Licensed bus driver. Assistant Principal on site to ensure all students have a ride.

Types of Materials Needed Volunteer applications. Transportation sign up sheet in office. Funding. Advertisement on school website and surrounding universities.

Meeting PTA and administration. Discuss goals and benefits of Student Success Center to obtain school funding. Ask for $12 an hour for teachers who sign up to tutor at the Student Success Center.

Tracking Utilize School Intervention Google document to track student involvement. Monitor individual student grade improvement over time.

Differentiation S.S.C is tailored to student needs Levels of support: Subject areas. Make up work. Variety of teachers

Data: Student Growth Access students’ grades in the subject for which they are receiving help. Monitor grade from classes on monthly basis. Record growth areas Reassess E.O.C scores next year to see if improvement took place in each socioeconomic division. 85.7% passing E.O.C score Fuquay Report Card 2011

Summary Student Success Center will help close the achievement gap Provides structured support. Good study environment. Teacher and community involvement. Documents student progress over time.
