 One of the first in the world to introduce an anti-natalist population policy.

Family planning program In 1952 well publicized programme was launched-offered incentives -transistor radios to men who volunteered to be sterilized -partly successful 1970s-men were forced to be sterilized– lowered birth rates -gave population policies in India a bad reputation.

Today, India's population policy aims to reduce fertility rates, largely by encouraging the use of contraception
