1 Andreas Keil, 10 Nov 05 NEON Trial Sorties Mircromix/CEASAR Goal: Fly infra-red camera (IIR) for NEON validation Measure the Infra-red signature/contrast RUNWAY vs. GRASS (under various atmospheric conditions) (1 or) 2 dedicated flights Conditions / Timing: Clear-Skies !!! Around Lunchtime (for max. IR contrast) Key Instrumentation: IIR Met (RH, T) Aerosol (PCASP, …) ARIES

2 Andreas Keil, 10 Nov 05 Typical wavelengths/wavelength bands of interest for the various sensors to be covered by NEON are: 8-12 um (e.g. thermal imagers) 3-5 um (e.g. reconnaissance sensors) um (visible, e.g. TV sensors) (Night Vision Goggles) 1.06 um, 1.40 um (lasers Thermal contrast + Transmission = Infra-red signature NEONIIR Specification: Wavelength range: 8 – 9.2 microns video output is PAL which is a 256-line image at a 50Hz update rate … =25 frames/second. Resolution: 320 x 256 pixels Incorporates a spotter camera Mounted in Large Radiometer Blister (DEIMOS position) … view up to 35 deg down from horizontal Field of View (FoV): 45, 23 or 11 degrees depending on lens fitted
