Also know as the Guadalcanal Campaign Guadalcanal is part of the Solomon Islands It was fought August 7, 1942 to February 9, 1943 If the Japanese captured the island they could cut off the sea route between America and Australia.

Three carriers gave air support They were guarded by the battleship USS North Carolina and 24 other support ships. Five American and Australian cruisers guarder the actual landing craft gathered off of Tenaru on Guadalcanal.

On August 8 Us lost 4 Cruisers Over 7,000 US casualties and over 24,000 Japanese casualties. The allied troops won the battle
