Plays as entertainment Shakespeare’s plays taught people about society and about how human beings relate to each other and to the world they lived in They could be about rich men, poor men, royalty, peasants, ghosts, witches or fairies! In Elizabeth’s day, the Church was very important to the average poor Elizabethan. Shakespeare’s plays reflect the importance of religious festivals, feasts and fairs in the lives of ALL Elizabethans, even royalty.
