A STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS TO COMPLETE A BASIC POWERPOINT PRESENTATION Basic PowerPoint Tutorial

Step 1: Access Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer. To locate and open Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer  Click on Start, then All Programs then Microsoft Office, then Microsoft Office PointPoint.

This will be the screen that you will see when you open Microsoft Office PowerPoint.

Step 2: Save your presentation. (While it is not necessary at this point, it is a good idea to start by saving your work from the beginning.) Select the Office Button, then Save As, then PowerPoint Presentation.

Select an appropriate location and file name for your PowerPoint Presentation.

Step 3: Choose a design for your presentation. (Hint: Try to select a design that complements or enhances the theme of your presentation.) Click on the Design tab on the top of the page. Select and click on a theme that is appropriate for your presentation.

Step 4: Choose a color for your theme. (Hint: This choice will effect the background color of your slide and the color of your words. Choose colors you like and reflect the topic of your presentation.) Click Colors on ribbon at the top of the page. Scroll down through the choices until you find a combination that you like Click on the color theme you have chosen.

You are now ready to start adding information to your presentation.

Step 5: Add a title to your presentation. Click inside the title box and type a title for your presentation.

Step 6: Add a subtitle for your presentation. Click in the appropriate box and type in an interesting subtitle for your presentation.

Step 7: Add a slide to your presentation. Click on the Home tab on the ribbon at the top of the page. Click on New Slide. Click on the page layout that best fits your presentation

Step 8: Add a title to this slide. Click on the spot for the title and type in a title for this page. (Note: If you do not want a title, click on the box to select it and then click delete.)

Step 9: Add text to your slide. Click on the spot for the text (body of the slide) and type the text that you would like for this page.

Step 10: Continue to add slides to your presentation. Repeat Steps 7-9 for each slide until your presentation is complete. Please note:

When constructing PowerPoint slides that communicate effectively, try to remember: No more than 7 lines on a slide. No more than 7 words to a line. Helpful Hint: Remember the Rule of 7
