The Vision: – Eradication of abject poverty – Transformed economy From subsistence agriculture to globaly competitive economy. Economy (diversified) characterised of: – Sustainable tourism – Industrialization (SMEs) – Modernised agriculture 4

MKUZA I: REVIEW AND LESSONS 6

 MKUZA Annual Implementation Reports (MAIRs) 2007 & 2008; 17 STUDIES  MAIRs focused on outputs, need impact evaluation  Good achievements on:  education, infrastructure, water, anti-malaria, health systems (Improvements in child & maternal mortality) 7

 Growth lower than expectations  Indogenous and Exogenous factors  Resources by far less than needs  Private sector shy to take envisaged role 8

 MKUZA II is five years strategic plan and will cover the period from 2010 to  MKUZA II aims at improving areas that were found to be lacking or inadequately coved in MKUZA I. 10

 Implementation of Growth Strategy by coordinating and linking with other sectors and scale up growth-related interventions  Spelling out not only the results, but also the means to achieving the intended results.  To harness and scale up the Public Private Partnership  Implementation of Core Reforms 13

 The 4 APRM thematic areas seem to align well within the 3 clusters of MKUZA thus harmonization between the National Plan of Action of the APRM and MKUZA Implementation Plan will facilitate in attainment of accelerating economic development which is an important for the attainment of vision objectives.  It cements the thinking of “Development from within”. 15
